A Simple Formula For Creating Great Podcasts

I'm a big fan of podcasts. I started my podcast a couple of years ago and I have never looked back. If you're thinking of starting one, or if you just want to make sure yours is on the right track, keep reading. I have released new episodes consistently every week for over 132 weeks. When I started my podcast, it was because I wanted to give great social media tips that would help people grow their businesses online. It changed now into recording interviews with people who own their own businesses. Specifically, those who are doing cool things outside of the norm and trying to change the world through their services. I absolutely love talking to these people and learning from them.

Lately, I've been getting this question from people who want to start their own podcasting. "What makes a great podcast". It's an interesting question. So, after a bit of thought, I've come up with the following: A good podcast needs three things...

A good podcast needs three things from my perspective:

1) A good podcast needs great guests who will bring value to your listeners' lives. I started out with people who lived in my hometown and then moved outward. Now my audience is made up of all kinds of people, and now my audience gets to hear from people who represent their worldviews and experiences. I have learned, it's not just about having a diverse set of guests—it's also about making sure that they bring something unique and valuable to the conversation.

2) A good podcast needs an engaging host who can guide the conversation with confidence while still being vulnerable and real. One of the things I wanted my podcast to be was all about my guest. After all, people don't want to feel like they're being sold something—they want to feel like they're part of a conversation, where they can learn something new or expand their minds by listening to someone else's ideas. I feel a great host will do this by being honest about their own struggles and experiences so that listeners feel connected to them as human beings rather than just as entertainers performing for their benefit. I also try to be a great listener and bring out the best in my guest. It's about them not me.

3) A good podcast needs consistency so that listeners know when they can expect new episodes. I want my listeners to know when they can expect new episodes so they'll keep coming back for more content that speaks directly to their needs as individuals.

As with many things in life, the true magic happens when these three pieces work together. The formula doesn't guarantee that you'll have a hit podcast, but it will give you a solid framework to build on. Honestly, I've been doing podcasts for a couple of years now and I learn new things to tweak my podcast every week.
